There is no better way to celebrate the personal success of finishing a well crafted Science Fiction story, than to share with your peers. Everyone was very impressed by their fellow peers creative and well written stories. Great Job!
The students are working on creating good paragraphs for their narrative stories. Using a variety of texts, they discovered six reason to start a new paragraph:
New Setting Passage of Time New Idea Character Change New Event Speaker change The students then put their deeper understanding of paragraphs into practise while drafting their short stories. The students have filled in their roller coaster graphic organizer to show the rising action, conflict, falling action, and solution for their personal Science Fiction short stories. Let's get writing!!!!!
Although the students were a little hesitant about diving in to a Science Fiction novel, they are all very intrigued with our new Novel Study book, The Golden Aquarians. The book is sparking lots of discussion amongst the students, and they are learning many of the characteristics that they will be incorporating into their own short story.
Students shared their descriptions about what they envision the world will be like in the year 2070. I was impressed with the creativity that the student's exhibited, and now the student's are all geared up to create their own Science-Fiction short story.
I am always telling the students to "show me" their stories when they write not "tell me." This was put to the test today when students had to use their senses to write down what they observed around the school. They used their jot note skills to record all the events they saw, heard, as well as their thoughts and feeling about these observations as they occurred. Eventually, once they have mastered these recording and observational techniques, the students will complete an Observational Report for their science fair activity.
We put or knowledge about Matter to the test during this fun version of "Making Big Words." Used as a vocabulary booster, students rearrange the jumbled letters to make as many words as possible. The trick is that using all the letters will give you a big word, this time all the big words are related to Matter and Science.
