Inspiration From the World Around Us

To start the school year, students are warming up their creative writing skills by composing their own short story. We  started this project by looking for inspiration from the world around us, and created a list of where good ideas come from. Our list included books, memories, news, history, movies, music, games and art. Students begin recording their  personal story ideas in their journal, then choose one topic they were excited to write about.

After working on their short story planner, students were excited to begin drafting their stories. As we were lucky to have sunny weather this week, we decided to enjoy our outdoor learning spaces.

It was great to hear the students adding details from their surroundings as they began to draft!
