Students were given a book to read about a famous video game designer. They challenged themselves to take meaningful notes about important facts from his life. They then used the post-it notes to organize the facts.
Looking at the notes we had taken in the previous class, we were able to organize them into specific categories and create our own graphic organizer. We will use this graphic organizer to guide independent research.

Students "tuned in" to the new unit by sorting through a table filled with books. They were tasked with sorting the books into 3 categories. After a few attempts, and much discussion, the students organized the books by biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs. What will our new unit be?
