The students took the IB approach to research and create a poster for themselves, and peers, to refer to when writing. Students used prior knowledge to think of verbs they had encountered in their reading and writing in the past. Then they used books around them to gather new and interesting verbs that they could use in their future writing. This approach helps students take ownership over their writing and word choice, while reinforcing grammar skills.

How do writers get inspiration? Today our class full of authors, gathered seed ideas from magazine pictures. The smallest of pictures can triggered the most wonderful of memories, and the simplest of photos can explode into a wonderfully creative story. It was wonderful to see the smiles on people's faces when they shared their Seed Ideas with each other. The pages of our writer's notebooks are now filled with colourful pictures and plenty of inspiration for future stories!
