What clothes did they wear? What music did they listen to? What games did they play?
These are just some of the questions the students asked when thinking about their grandparents, parents, and even MY childhood. To answer these many questions, we have decided to create a timeline to compare similarities and differences through the decades. The class started in the 1920s and are working up to the year 2010! I am enjoying listening to the conversations that are being sparked by their research and the interesting observations being made.

As a class, we have read many books about childhood experiences and about passing along stories through the generations. The students have been noticing many interesting changes that have occurred through history, but also many that have stayed the same!
Some of these stories have answered our questions about our grandparents childhood experiences, while other books have guided us to ask new questions. The students have also recognized that certain events had significant impacts on the past generations, such as landing on the moon, or the first colour television set. Great observations by everyone!
The students showed pride in their finished project and enjoyed presenting their information to the class. They made many connections between projects and made some conclusions about how and why transportation has changed over time.
After reading a few different stories in class, we brainstormed as many different forms as transportation as we could. After compiling our list, we sorted our Transportation vocabulary into three groups: Air, Water, Land. Hmmm, we wonder why there are so many more types of land transportation? We will find out soon!
The students were so excited to publish their Poetry Anthologies. I hope that the parents enjoy sitting down to read the poems with the budding authors.
We have learned about so many different types of poems. So far we have created our own Acrostic Poem, Concrete Poem, Rhyming Poem, Sensory Colour Poem, Cinquain Poem, and Limerick!
As part of Library day, students choose a book they would like to read from the library, and the following week respond to a variety of questions. This week students incorporated all types of questions they had encounter so far, and did Book Talks for their peers.
